Travelodge Plans Two New Wimbledon Hotels

Hotel chain now looking for sites

The Travelodge hotel chain has said it plans to open new hotels in Wimbledon town centre and Wimbledon Village as part of an expansion plan across the capital.

It says it is looking for four sites in Merton, including two in SW19, with Morden and Mitcham also being on their list.

Travelodge, which already has one hotel in Epsom Road, Morden, has said it will create 80 local jobs and generate £80m for Merton.

Grant Hearn, Travelodge Chief Executive, included Wimbledon on a target list of 145 locations for new hotels across London.

He said: "The London hotel market is the strongest in the world and our target location list reflects its growth potential. We were proud to be the largest hotel brand in London for the Olympics but that was just the beginning for Travelodge.

"There is a clear need for good quality, budget hotel rooms in central London as many of the existing B&Bs and hostels offer inadequate accommodation, poor value and extortionate prices."
