Truck driver arrested after pensioner injured
Police are now appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was airlifted to hospital after he was hit by a truck as he walked near the level crossing on West Barnes Lane on Monday (November 7).
The driver of the DAF tipper truck, a 43-year-old man from Newham, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He was later interviewed at a South London Police Station and released on bail, pending further enquiries.
London Ambulance said the 66-year-old victim was suffering from a "serious leg injury" after the accident, which took place at 11.20am.
Traffic on the approach to the crossing was stationary at the time, as the level crossing barrier gates were closed.
An air ambulance was called to take the victim to St George's Hospital in Tooting, where his condition was later described as "serious but stable".
The road at the level crossing junction, which is between Raynes Park and Motspur Park stations, was closed in the aftermath of the accident.
