Wimbledon Students Celebrate A-Level Results
Exams joy for local youngsters
A-Level students across Merton celebrated this week as they received their A-Level results, which were above the national average for A* to E grades. Overall, 99% of A-Level students in the borough achieved A* to E compared with a national average of 98%.
Wimbledon’s Ursuline High School had another successful year with above average scores across all grade bandings and 80% achieving A* to C compared with the national average of 76%. Ursuline has also seen an increase in the number of pupils achieving A* to A grades over the past three years.
Ninety-nine per cent of pupils at Raynes Park High School achieved A* to E grades, above the national average of 98%. This has been achieved despite the fact that the number of students taking A-Levels at the school has doubled since last year.
Pupils at Ricards Lodge High School in Wimbledon achieved 98% A* to E grades in line with the national average and 75% achieved A* to C grades against a national average of 76%.
Rutlish High School, Merton Park, has improved in every grade band, with 97% achieving A* to E grades and 72% achieving A* to C.

Wimbledon College was also strong in the A* to E banding with 99% of students achieving A* to E. Seventy-four per cent attained A* to C grades.
St Mark’s Academy in Mitcham has not been able to share their results with the local authority at the time of publication.
Merton Council cabinet member for education Councillor Martin Whelton said: "My congratulations go to all our young people on their successes which are testament to their commitment and determination that they have shown towards their studies. It is also great to see so many now go on to university as they recognise the importance of education in an ever more competitive world.
"Whatever they do next, whether it’s education or work, they will be beginning a new and exciting chapter to their lives. My thanks are also extended to their teachers for helping them achieve their results, but also their families who have supported them through education.
"In recent years, Merton has introduced sixth forms to many of our schools which has extended the range of opportunities available to our young people in our schools and I have no doubt this will benefit young people across the borough."
Merton Conservatives have also congratulated this year’s A-level students on their exam results. Commenting on the publication of the borough’s provisional A-level results, Councillor James Holmes, the Conservatives’ Education spokesman said: "Congratulations to all Merton’s hardworking students, teachers and parents on their A-level success. It is vital that our young people enter university or the workplace with a good set of academic achievements behind them and, whatever they are doing next, I wish them all fulfilling and successful futures.
"Government reforms to ensure that A-levels remain the academic ‘gold standard’ for our education system mean this year’s exams were more rigorous than ever so these results have been hard won."
