Wimbledon hero makes a return

AFC Wimbledon's new manager is former Dons' legend Neal Ardley.

The 40-year-old, who has been the manager of Cardiff City's academy was appointed on Wednesday (October 10).

The fomer midfielder made more than 300 appearances for the original Wimbledon club.

Ardley will be assisted by ex-Aston Villa defender Neil Cox. Simon Bassey, who has been acting as player manager since the departure of Terry Brown, will continue on the coaching staff.

Wimbledon Chief Executive Erik Samuelson said: "We put the candidates through a very exacting interview process. They were all very impressive but it wasn't difficult to pick out the outstanding candidate for the role.

"Neal's background in bringing through young players fits perfectly with our commitment to youth development. We are looking forward to working with him."
