England No 8 Appointed At Wimbledon RFC

Nick Easter will be Head Coach at Barham Road

Wimbledon RFC have appointed Harlequins and England's Nick Easter as Head Coach at this ambitious south west London club, with former Wasps and England prop, Tim Payne, as assistant.

Easter (right), aged 35, will continue his playing career with Quins, and possibly England.

One of the twelve surviving founding members of the RFU in 1865, Wimbledon are currently in London League 1 South, where they finished last season a comfortable fourth, beating both the league’s promoted clubs, Gravesend and Chichester, at home and away.

Speaking about his appointment, Easter said: "What an excellent time to be joining such an historic club. Wimbledon has always been on my radar and I'm proud to take on this role. I've already been made to feel very welcome but I’m looking forward to meeting all those who work to drive this club forward".

Easter and Payne will be aided in their push to secure Wimbledon's promotion to National 3 South by former Glasgow Warrior, Shawn Renwick, who will fulfil a player/coach role.

James Ogilvie-Bull remains as team manager and the club's new Director of Rugby will be former player and club stalwart, Steph d’Anna.

Unsurprisingly, Wimbledon say attendance at pre-season training under the new coaching regime has been impressive.
