Getting Arty In Wimbledon Town Centre

ArtShed fun on Wimbledon Piazza

The first weekend of the "ArtShed" in Wimbledon town centre took off to a colourful start with Wimbledon College of Arts students holding the first workshop.

'The Collab Collective' a local collective of artists from Wimbledon College of Art, conducted art demonstrations and workshops that  incorporated mark making, glazing and colour mixing.

The artists welcomed passers-by to paint directly onto the walls of the ArtShed, contributing to a large scale, community painting.

The workshop was a big hit with the youngsters of Wimbledon, mother Libby Plumb said after her children Oliver and Abi spent an afternoon painting: "The ArtShed completely made their day… They were there until it shut at 5pm!"

The ArtShed is a new initiative from Business Improvement District Love Wimbledon and partners Merton Arts Trail and Wimbledon Bookfest, to bring arts into the town centre. Helen Clark Bell, BID  Manager said: "There's a host of artistic activity and talent in Wimbledon, being able to enjoy and appreciate it and participate in it, in the heart of the town centre has been fantastic’".

The ArtShed, on The Piazza (outside Morrisons) will be hosting different artists over the next three weekends, including Fridays.

Isabelle Southwood, the designer of the Stag at Wimbledon station will be presenting in the ArtShed next weekend (September 20-22). Polka Theatre will also be taking over the ArtShed on the weekend of September 28.
