Next Stage In Boundary Shake-Up Debate

September will bring us closer to a decision

The next annoucement about controversial boundary change plans for the Wimbledon constituency will be made in early September.

Boundary Commission proposals set out in 2011 would put much of the rest of the existing Wimbledon constituency into a new seat, also covering New Malden.

But they also propose moving Abbey and Trinity wards, which cover much of Wimbledon town centre, into a new Mitcham seat.

This has met with much cross-party opposition and a petition set up to oppose the changes attracted 1,420 signatures.

The Commission accepted comments on their proposals until December 2011. They then gave people chance to comment on others' proposals. This opportunity ended on April 3.

Today they have announced that the next stage will come in "early September" when they will announce the publication date for their revised proposals.
