Joins an elite band of top school
A Wimbledon school has been awarded a coveted place in the Mayor of London's Schools' Gold Club.
Wimbledon College in Edge Hill has been recognised for its success in improving pupils' aspirations and achievements.
Only 6% of schools have been invited to join the club, out of the thousands of primary and secondary schools across London.
With a growing culture of success at Wimbledon College, pupils recognise the value of education which has been reflected in their achievements in 2013 including 39% of students achieving the E-Bacc (national average is 25%), 7% of pupils going to Oxbridge following A-Level success and 90% making expected or better than expected progress in English and 88% in maths.
Launched last year, the London Schools' Gold Club identifies and champions schools in the capital that achieve excellence especially for disadvantaged students. Through the club, the Mayor of London is inviting the gold standard schools to share with other schools their good practice to help more schools achieve the best for their pupils.
Ursuline High School and Wimbledon Chase Primary School are also members of the Gold Club, having been awarded places last year.

Merton Council cabinet member for education Councillor Martin Whelton added: "Education changes lives, and I am really delighted that Wimbledon College has been picked out from the thousands of schools in London as a stand-out example in achieving success along with a high level of attainment. Congratulations goes to all its teaching staff and pupils in joining the London Schools’ Gold Club – they should be very proud of their achievement."
