Resident stops three bikes being stolen
Wimbledon police are warning cyclists to be wary after a spate of bike thefts in the area.
One potential incident was stopped when an eagle-eyed resident spotted some suspicious activity near some bikes in St Georges Road, Wimbledon, on Friday October 8.
Police from Hillside ward responded immediately and caught three people in possession of three stolen mountain bikes and also recovered a set of bolt croppers used to take the cycles.
They have warned people parking their bikes in Wimbledon town centre to use locks of an adequate standard - with a rule of thumb that a lock should cost 10% of the value of the cycle.
Police are also appealing for witnesses after a mobile phone was snatched in the town centre.
A man snatched the phone from a 30-year-old woman as she was using it as she walked along The Broadway at about 10.20am on Thursday October 7.
Police were called, but the suspect couldn't be found. Further enquiries are being actively pursued by investigating officers.
