Merton party chairman writes open letter those who helped out
Simon McGrath, the Chairman of Merton Borough Liberal Democrats has written an open letter to thank all of those who supported, helped and voted for the party's General Election candidates Shas Sheehan and Diana Coman.
Mr McGrath said, "I know they both really enjoyed meeting so many of you to talk about the issues that matter to you. We also want to congratulate Stephen Hammond and Siobhain McDonnagh on their re-election."
In what was a hugely disappointing result for the party nationally, the Liberal Democrat vote held up relatively well locally and they say that party membership in the area has nearly doubled.
Mr McGrath continues, "We will be continuing the fight to make Merton a more liberal place. We strongly believe in holding elected representatives to account in order to make them work harder to represent you, and we'll be championing issues such as maintaining a safe and clean environment, good local services, protecting human rights, and decent and affordable housing. Everyone needs these things to meet their full potential and in order to live their lives as they choose."
