Trophy Success For Wimbledon Fencers


Silverware for local competitors in two fencing competitions

Six fencing clubs from the region fenced foil, épée and sabre at the 36th annual Wimbledon Invitation Challenge Trophy competition at Ursuline High School sports centre.

A very close contest on June 25 ended in individual trophies going to Mark Caldwell, foil, Calum Maynard épée and to Dan Herbert, sabre all of Egham Fencing Club, but the team winners were Wimbledon: Mark Richardson, club captain, and Marco Russo in épée, Hilmi Sergen and Brian Harkins in foil and Jim Hamilton and Paweł Żakiewicz in sabre.

Club des Artistes 42 points

Kingston 54 points

Streatham 61 points

Crawley/Redhill & Reigate 67 points

Egham 76 points

Wimbledon 78 points.

The following weekend in the Surrey County one hit épée championships on July 2 in Epsom it was gold, silver and bronze for Wimbledon with life member, Tim Buzwell winning with 20 victories, Mark Richardson in second place with 16 and Simon White third with 15.
