Wimbledon Film & TV Company Is A Trailblazer

Local firm reaches final of 'Breaking the Mould' awards

Wimbledon-based Enlightenment Productions has reached the finals of a prestigious UK business awards.

The film and television company beat off tough competition to join finalists at a glittering awards dinner to be hosted at the Institute of Directors, Pall Mall on November 4.

'Breaking the Mould 2014', in partnership with the Institute of Directors and in association with The Mail on Sunday, were set up to celebrate those companies doing the most to create a pipeline of female leaders of the future.

At a time when less than 9% of directors in the UK are women, judges were impressed by Enlightenment Productions' strong female role models at the helm of their business and their support of women in their film productions.

Enlightenment Productions, based in Copse Hill, is dedicated to producing, distributing and selling entertaining independent feature films and television content of integrity and individuality.

Their latest feature, Despite the Falling Snow, is based on co-founder Shamim Sarif's novel and written and directed by the author. The movie stars 2014 Golden Globe nominee and new Mission Impossible co-star Rebecca Ferguson and Charles Dance and is produced by co-founder Hanan Kattan.

Lisa Buckingham OBE, former editor of Financial Mail and co-founder of the Breaking the Mould Awards said: "The quality of the entries to this year's Breaking the Mould Awards were extremely high and our finalists should be congratulated."

Hanan Kattan, producer and co-founder of Enlightenment said: "Having worked for many years to level the playing field for women in a traditionally male dominated industry, it’s been a real honour to have been nominated for these awards."

Lord Sugar’s former right-hand woman Margaret Mountford will bring her expertise and razor-sharp wit to the Awards when she joins Sir Roger Carr, Chairman of BAE Systems plc and Deputy Chairman and Senior Independent Director of the Court of the Bank of England and Business Secretary, Vince Cable to announce the winners and hand out prizes. Brilliant young classical superstar, Laura Wright, will bring talent and a dash of glamour to a champagne reception ahead of the awards, which are sponsored by Vodafone, Diageo, Aberdeen Asset Management, 30 per cent club, Institute of Directors, Asda, BNY Mellon and BLJ.
