Wimbledon Optician Pledges Pounds For Pups

Coco the guide dog visits local store

An optician's in Wimbledon played host to local guide dogs and their handlers for a fundraising day to support Guide Dogs.

Staff from Specsavers in Wimbledon welcomed yellow Labrador Coco, and Retriever-Labrador crosses Otto and Willow to their store on The Broadway, along with their handlers, Hilary Leacock, Simon Coated and Sandy Gray, as part of a fundraising campaign to raise £2,500 for the charity, to sponsor the breeding and training of a new pup.

Ray Hutchings, store director at Wimbledon Specsavers, said: "It was fantastic to see the handlers and their gorgeous dogs in store. They are local Wimbledon residents so it's brilliant to support a charity that is so close to home.

"Over the next three months we will be ramping up our fundraising efforts for the charity to meet our £2,500 pledge. So far we have raised a whopping £462.26.

"Instead of naming the dog ourselves we are inviting local children to put their best suggestion forward and enter a naming competition. Full details can be found in store or at Pelham Primary School and St Mary's Catholic Primary School."

Hilary said: "Coco and I were privileged to spend some time in the company of the amazing staff at Specsavers Wimbledon, lending what support we could to their awareness day. £2,500 is an incredible sum and will make such a difference to the charity.
