South Wimbledon Hotel Plans Rejected

Opponents feel scheme was 'too high'

Plans to demolish a terrace of two-story homes in South Wimbledon to replace it with an eight-storey hotel have been turned down by councillors.

Ninety-one residents objected to the scheme proposed for 34-40 Morden Road by developers Jones Granville. Most were concerned about the building's height and lack of parking.

Merton council officers had recommded the scheme be approved, but councillors rejected it a planning meeting on October 10. They felt it was too high and inappropriate for the area.

A previous application for a nine-storey building with 58 apartments was withdrawn by developers in 2012 after they were warned it would be rejected.
