Nicky Makes A Difference To Wimbledon Life

Meet the manager of a local Farmer's Market

She's such a busy person, that she took some tracking down....but the winner of this site's award for the person 'Who Made A Difference In Wimbledon in 2010' is Nicky Hartopp.

Nicky (pictured right with her prize Champagne) is the popular manager of the weekly Wimbledon Park Farmers' Market.

WimbledonSW19.com offered the prize to reward someone who made a real difference to local life in Wimbledon in 2010. Nicky was nominated by Joyce Pountain.

Joyce, from Transition Town Wimbledon, said of Nicky: "Not only does she run a really good market, she is always there to support people needing help, whether it's an elderly person who can't carry her shopping, a stall owner going off for a cup of coffee or us wanting to display our leaflets."

Nicky, who first started managing the market more than eight years ago, said: "I don't deserve it. I am really surprised and it's great to get an award for something I love doing".

The market has been running at Wimbledon Park School in Havana Road for nearly 11 years and it is one of the oldest in London. It's one of the London Farmers' Markets.

Nicky's typical Saturday at the market starts at 7.45am when she arrives to help the stallholders set up. The market opens at 9am, and there are normally nearly 20 stalls each week with products including plants, flowers, vegetables, salads, meat, game, cheese, herbs and cider.

She said: "There are some really tempting stalls and a real community feel. It is like a party every Saturday!"
