Blaze takes hold in a second floor loft conversion

A fire in a loft conversion being carried out in a Wimbledon property needed eight fire engines and 58 firefighters at the scene.

The were called to a fire at a detached house under refurbishment in The Drive, Wimbledon, at 5.19pm on Tuesday (May 22).

Part of a second floor loft conversion was damaged by fire.

Fire crews from Wimbledon, New Malden, Wandsworth, Tooting and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

London Fire Brigade said afterwards that the cause of the fire, which was under control by 10pm, is under investigation.
