Wimbledon Man Killed In Ski-ing Accident


Avalanche struck during family holiday in Italy

Wimbledon father-of-three Graeme Porteous has died after an avalanche struck while he was on a family ski-ing holiday in the Italian Alps.

It is understood that Mr Porteous, aged 48, deployed a safety airbag, but that pushed him into a tree.

Mr Porteous, of St Mary's Road in Wimbledon, was a fomer investment banker, who chaired Lawrence Dallaglio's Rugby for Change charity.

In 2012 he took part in a charity cycle challenge with Dallaglio and cricketer Andrew Flintoff, which saw him complete a 521km stage of their Greece to London cycle marathon.

According to reports, Mr Porteous survived the initial impact of the avalanche in Piedmont, but suffered 'multiple trauma' when he was trapped agained the tree.

Other members of his ski-ing party escaped unhurt.
