A Wimbledon man has been killed in a road accident as he walked along a country lane at night with a group of friends.

Matthew Lind, aged 31, of Broadway Court in Wimbledon town centre, died at the scene on single track Harveys Lane in Ringmer, near Lewes, in Sussex.

He was hit by a Nissan Pathfinder 4 x 4 car driven by a 31-year-old woman from nearby Uckfield. James Morden, 31, from Tunbridge Wells, was also killed.

Two women, aged 27 and 29, were injured in the accident, which took place just after 8pm on Saturday (September 9).

Three other people in the group escaped unhurt. It is understood they were walking to a nearby campsite.

The driver, who was not hurt, has not been arrested. Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses.
