Wimbledon Music Festival Is Good For The Soul

This year's International Wimbledon Music Festival will soon be offering a "veritable banquet for the soul" with 16 days of music by world renown classical performers.

It takes place at a series of venues across Wimbledon from Saturday November 12 until Sunday November 27.

The festival opens with J S Bach's Mass in B Minor by the Academy Choir and Orchestra at St John's Church in Spencer Hill at 8pm on November 12 and ends at the same venue with a Celebration of the Wind Quintet at 7.30pm on Sunday November 27.

Wimbledon Music FestivalThe festival's 21 events also include an evening of gypsy and Balkan music; a lunchtime recorder recital; a performance by Sunwook Kim, Leeds International Pianoforte competition winner and a lunchtime showcase by pupils of the Yehudi Menhuin School.

There willl also be a programme of educational activities in the community, centred on Saint Cecilia's Day (Tuesday November 22), celebrating the patron saint of music with "Performance Day, Merton" involving more than 4,000 performers in 65 schools across the borough.
