International Music Stars Come To Wimbledon

Tickets on sale for annual festival

Tickets are now on sale for this year's International Wimbledon Music Festival, which takes place from November 10-25.

Guests this year include stars such as American soprano Christine Brewer, the Russian Kopelman Quartet, Russian violinist Alina Ibragimova, Chinese guitarist Xuefei Yang and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

A centre piece of the festival will be Stravinsky's Petrushka, with puppets, projections and ballet music.

There will also be a premier of 'Chopin's Waterloo' - a major new work for piano, violin, cello, double-bass, horn and percussion by Benjamin Wallfisch.

The festival, which encourages active participation in musical performance in the local community, will be embracing St Cecilia's Day on November 22.

There will be two performances of Benjamin Britten's community opera 'Noye's Fludde' to mark the day on which music and the arts are traditionally celebrated.

Last year more than 16,000 school children in Merton borough participated in projects initiated by the festival with the help of Merton Music Foundation.

The festival box office is on 0844 871 7685.
