Open House weekend in Wimbledon

The doors of various historic buildings in and around Wimbledon will be open during this year's Open House London.

Open House London is the capital's biggest architectural festival, which gives Londoners and visitors free access to over 700 fascinating buildings in the capital for one weekend in September each year.

To celebrate the festival, Merton has put together a special programme of sites to see and activities to take part in over the weekend of September 22 and 23.

Highlights include :

  • The Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon, one of only two Thai temples outside Asia and the first to be built in Europe
  • The Wheelhouse and the Colour House Theatre at Merton Abbey Mills, the Museum of Wimbledon and many other attractions. 
  • Guided walks of Merton Park Holly Walk and a tour of Mitcham Cricket Green and Mitcham Common
  • Special activities include junior archaeology and fabric block printing at Merton Priory Chapter House and a ‘Hidden Gems’ photographic display at Merton Heritage Centre.

Merton Council’s cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration, Councillor Andrew Judge, said: "Open House London offers people the chance to find out about our rich local heritage. There is a lot to see and enjoy in Merton as part of the festival, whether it be going on the Merton Park Holly Walk or visiting the splendid Buddhapadipa Temple."
