Wimbledon Parking Under Review

Chance to comment on local parking

A review of parking across Merton - including Wimbledon Village and town centre - is being carried out by the council.

They are particularly looking at three key areas - is there enough parking? Is it in the right place? Is it the right price and for the correct number of hours?

Merton council is undertaking the parking consultation for the areas of Wimbledon town centre, Wimbledon Village, Colliers Wood town centre, Raynes park town centre, Mitcham town centre and Morden town centre.

There is opportunity to comment on parking in these areas until September 21.

The council is also investigating the allocation of trade parking permits in Wimbledon.

Wimbledon East Hillside Residents' Association claims some businesses in the area have been allocated as many as 13 parking permits, while residents struggle to find spaces.

A spokesman for the Association said: "It is becoming increasingly difficult to park in the streets where we live. Merton Council’s current business parking permit scheme appears to be going badly awry."

A council spokesman replied: "We are currently investigating the allocation of trade permits and will be looking at introducing new criteria for allocation should the need arise."
