Police Alert On Security Cold Callers

Officers say callers are not working with the Met

Wimbledon police have issued a warning about a security company making 'cold calls' and claiming they are working alongside the Met.

PC Tony Leworthy says a firm called Group 1 Security have been making cold calls in Wimbledon Village offering to visit and check home security arrangements.

He said they claim to be working with the Met Police in the area on a "Crime Prevention Initiative".

"By all accounts they can be very pushy in making an appointment to attend your address.

"They are not working with or on behalf the Police, neither do we recommend or endorse their products. They appear to use high pressure selling tactics by selling you an alarm system, then charging a lot to monitor and maintain it.

"If you require crime prevention and home security advice, please call us direct. We can help and we do not charge," he said.

Police in Wimbledon Village have also warned drivers against leaving property on display in cars. There have recently been two thefts of expensive golf clubs from cars parked in Marryat Road and Copse Hill.
