Wimbledon Will Remember Them


Local Remembrance Day services

A series of Remembrance Day services will be held across Merton, including SW19, on November 10 and 11.

They will be attended by the Mayor of Merton, Councillor Krystal Miller, Deputy Mayor, Councillor John Sargeant and the leaders of all political parties.

On Sunday 10 November three ceremonies will take place at the following locations:

St Mary's Merton Park War Memorial will start at 9am and will be attended by the Mayor of Merton and the Morden and District branch of The Royal British Legion.

Wimbledon War Memorial (above), Wimbledon Village, will start at 10.40am and will be attended by the Mayor of Merton, The Rt Hon Sir John Wheeler JP DL, and the Wimbledon branch of The Royal Legion.

Mitcham War Memorial, Lower Green West, Mitcham, will start at 10.40am and will be attended by the Deputy Mayor, and the Mitcham branch of The Royal British Legion.

On Armistice Day, Monday 11 November two remembrance services will take place at 10.50am.

Merton Civic Centre, Morden will be attended by the Deputy Mayor.

Mitcham Clock Tower, Mitcham Fair Green will be attended by the Mayor of Merton.

Mayor of Merton, Councillor Krystal Miller said: "Armistice Day is a time to reflect and remember those who have lost their lives fighting for the peace and freedom we enjoy today. We also remember the dedication and bravery of those who are currently serving in our Armed Forces. I encourage everyone who can make it to attend the service closest to them."
