Wimbledon Restaurant Is Venue For Mayor's Charity Dinner

Ambience will stage fund-raising dinner

Join the mayor of Merton for a meze meal and pre-dinner drink at family-run restaurant in Wimbledon to raise money for two local charities.

The Mediterranean Night charity fundraising dinner will take place at the Turkish/Lebanese restaurant Ambience in Leopold Road, Wimbledon, on Friday February 24.

Merton Council leader Councillor Stephen Alambritis and the Mayor of Merton, Councillor Brenda Fraser invite residents to the event. People are able to book online for the first time. The charities that will benefit from the event are Merton Age UK and Avanti.

The dinner will cost £30 per person and includes a pre dinner drink and full meze menu.  Last year Ambience won a national award from takeaway service Hungry House after competing against 11,000 other restaurants to win the coveted Britain’s Best Takeaway title. Guests will be treated to freshly prepared hot and cold mezes, grilled dishes and a selection of cocktails.

Cllr Fraser said: “It’s wonderful to have a national award-winning restaurant in our borough. It’s testimony to the culinary treasures that can be found in Merton. This dinner is a great way for guests to enjoy a delicious meal and give to, not one, but two deserving charities – it’s win-win.

“For the first time guests can book online, which makes it even easier to book tickets and contribute to two great causes.”

Cllr Alambritis added: “Merton Age UK and the Avanti Club are two charities which are truly rooted in Merton. It’s great to be able to invite guests to enjoy a wonderful meal and give to these vital charities.”

The restaurant is situated at 12-14 Leopold Road in Wimbledon and tickets for the meal which starts at 7pm can be purchased at www.merton.gov.uk/charityevents or by contacting the mayor’s office on 020 8545 3517.
