Wimbledon RFC On The Hunt For New Players

Pre-season trial against Guildford goes well

Wimbledon had a successful pre-season trial with a squad of over 40 taking on a combative Guildford 1st and 2nd team. Despite the squad comprising just nine players from last season and many not knowing the names of half their team-mates, both teams produced some excellent rugby.

Most encouragingly, not one of the players in the 2nd XV - who had a convincing 38-22 win -  would look out of place in the 1sts.

With 11 of last year's XV absent the Wimbledon 1st team pack struggled against a well-drilled Guildford scrum and lineout, but still managed to lead until the last minute when the visitors stole a 36-35 win.

Coach Nick Easter, who helped steer Wimbledon into National League 3 South this season, and new backs coach, Easter’s Harlequins team-mate and former All Black, Nick Evans, would both welcome more new players in all positions.

Those interested should turn up for training at 7pm on Tuesday or Thursday at Wimbledon's Barham Road ground. Or for details call the clubhouse on 0208 946 3156.
