Fundraising Drive After Wimbledon Rugby Player Dies

Popular rugby player collapsed during a game

A fund-raising campaign in aid of a 34-year-old Wimbledon father who collapsed and died during a rugby match has almost reached its £50,000 target.

Shawnton de Four, a father of 14-month-old twins and married to Suzie, died after collapsing on the pitch while playing for Old Emanual Rugby Club, New Malden.

Fellow rugby players tried to resuscitate him on the pitch on March 4, but he died later in St George's Hospital.

The fund-raising initiative has already received the support of England players including Chris Robshaw, Billy Vunipola, Jamie George and Maro Itoje.

Club chairman Penny McCarthy increased the original target to raise £20,000 for each twin. But when that was smashed it was raised to £50,000.
