Sainsburys to sell bag created by local school

Pupils from Bishop Gilpin School in Wimbledon have designed an eco-bag to encourage shoppers to go green when the new 5p bag tax starts on Monday (October 5).

The primary school's 'Green Team' will be selling their bag to raise funds for their school at Sainsburys in Wimbledon at noon on Monday. 

Sainsburys have offered to buy 50 bags to help promote using eco-bags and support their local school.

All the money raised from the sale is going towards building a new outdoor ecological, educational area at their school and for solar panels.

The Green Team, under the direction of Bishop Gilpin teacher Damian Oliver and headteacher Matt Ball, will be seeking to reduce wastage throughout the school through a series of initiatives which will see the children recycle and re-use wherever possible.

"It's about getting our children, and their families, into good practises here at school and at home which will save energy, waste less and re-use more," said Mr Oliver.

The eco-bag is a limited edition and is available on Monday at Sainsburys in Wimbledon, through Bishop Gilpin School, Lake Road (020 8946 6666), or can be picked up at their Christmas Fair on December 5, 12pm-3pm.

The bags, priced at £4 each, are strong canvas and brightly decorated, as can be seen in the above photograph.
