Wimbledon Office Staff In 'Walk To Waterloo' Charity Event

Forty staff raise hospice funds with charity walk

Staff at Domestic& General’s Wimbledon office raised over £2,500 for St Michael’s Hospice, Basingstoke, as they took to the streets to ‘Walk to Waterloo’.

Last Thursday, forty staff members battled against the cold to complete the four hour sponsored walk from Wimbledon to Waterloo. The walk helped boost the office’s 2016 fundraising total for the hospice to £5,000.

Each year, every Domestic& General office in the UK supports a charity, chosen by their staff. The Wimbledon office’s choice for 2016 is St Michael’s Hospice, which aims to help anyone facing a life-limiting illness, their families and carers, to attain the highest possible quality of life by providing a choice of specialist care and support.

It was also chosen because staff member Jit Panesar’s father was cared for by the hospice.

She said of the fundraising efforts by the Worple Road-based office this year: "This is a cause incredibly close to my heart, and I shall never forget the care and support that St Michael's and their incredible team provided to my family. It's a privilege to be able to support such a fantastic charity, and we'll continue to keep fundraising and supporting them in the future."

Caroline Huggett, UK HR Director and chair of the charity committee at Domestic & General, said: “This is a great achievement by our Wimbledon team and we are delighted that we’ve managed to raise £5,000 over the year so far for St Michael’s Hospice.  We would like to thank all the staff involved for their fundraising and their commitment to supporting great causes.”

Jackie Ridge of St Michael’s Hospice, added: “Thank you so much to each and every one of you for taking on the Walk to Waterloo in aid of St Michael’s. This is a fantastic challenge and we are so very grateful for your support.”
