Wimbledon Symphony Orchestra's Winter Concert


Music in aid of Macmillan

Wimbledon Symphony Orchestra will be giving a concert in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support at St Paul's Church on Saturday January 29.

They will be performing:

Beethoven Overture: King Stephen

Bruch Violin Concerto  (violin, Callum Smart)

Beethoven Eroica Symphony.

Wimbledon Symphony OrchestraCallum Smart was the prizewinner in the 2010 Yehudi Menuhin Competition in Oslo at the age of 14. He then went on to be selected as one of the three Concerto Finalists in the 2010 BBC Young Musicians Competition, playing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto.

He has studied the violin since he was six: he was a pupil at the Royal College of Music's Junior Department before studying at the Yehudi Menuhin School and for the last three years he has been at Chetham's School of Music.

The Wimbledon Symphony Orchestra, which met for the first time in 1961, has two other concerts to come in its 2010-2011 season - on Saturday April 2 and Sunday June 26.

Their winter concert takes place at 7.30pm on Saturday January 29 at St Paul’s Church, Inner Park Road, Wimbledon. For more information, see the WSO website.
