Officers found rotting food and mouse problem

An online takeaway service run from a warehouse in Wimbledon Park has been forced to close because it breached hygiene standards.

The Bamboo Baboom takeaway, specialising in Chinese and Thai food, had a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice imposed after a visit by environmental health officers.

They found rotting food, evidence of cross contamination between raw and cooked food, and a significant mouse problem that was not receiving any pest control treatment.

Members of staff at the Weir Road premises were also not properly trained in food hygiene and there was said to be an absence of any food management system.

Merton council is now said to be instigating court proceedings, and the premises will be be allowed to re-open until substantial improvement works have been carried out.

Councillor Tariq Lord Ahmad (left), Conservative councillor for Wimbledon Park ward, said: "We would like to thank all those people who have been in touch to complain about the poor quality of the food that was being provided from the premises.

"Their diligence has stopped other residents from eating food that was prepared in these poor conditions. We would also like to thank Merton Council for acting so swiftly on this information from the public.

"We will continue to monitor this case closely on behalf of our residents in Wimbledon Park whilst court proceedings are instigated against the company concerned."
