Anyone For Fun Tennis?

Wimbledon tennis fun day

A Tennis Fun Day will be held in Wimbledon Park will be held on Friday and Saturday June 29 and 30.

Every year Merton council hosts the event to get children involved in tennis, in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association and the All England Lawn and Tennis Club.

Friday will be for school children from Merton, with Saturday open to all children.

There will be twice as much top-level tennis this summer, as both the Wimbledon Tennis Championships and the Olympic tennis event will be hosted in the borough.

Once Merton has finished celebrating the annual Wimbledon Tennis Championships, the borough will welcome a change of dressing, as a whole new set of colours and dressings will be erected marking our host borough status and welcome the Olympic Tennis event from the week beginning July 9.

Cabinet member for community and culture, Councillor Nick Draper said: "What a summer it's going to be for sport in Merton! The Championship and the Olympics! Thanks, as ever, to the AELTC and LTA for helping to get our children interested in tennis.  And I can't wait to see the borough dressed in its Olympic colours!"
