Volunteer Centre Merton opens pop-up shop

A new pop-up shop, run by Volunteer Centre Merton, will be opening in Wimbledon's Centre Court Shopping Centre on Friday June 7.

The aim of the "Fayre and Square" shop will be be provide employability skills and retail experience to young adults with disabilities and other support needs.They will be supported by volunteers and staff from Volunteer Centre Merton (VCM).

The theme of the shop is 'village fete'– VCM wants to bring the village fete indoors. It will be selling items from local independent artisans and traders – including handmade jewellery, painted wooden toys, arts and crafts and handmade cards.

Initially, the shop will open on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10am-4pm, plus the last Saturday of every month.

It will be officially opened at 12 noon on Friday June 7 by Mayor of Merton, Krystal Miller.

Sarah Hannigan at Volunteer Centre Merton said: "We are very excited to have this opportunity to provide retail skills to young adults and at the same time to support local independent artisans. We are delighted to have a strong partnership with Centre Court Shopping Centre and are grateful for their continued support and commitment to this innovative community project."
