New Wimbledon Winter Wonderland Pulls In The Crowds

Firework show ends all-day spectacular

More than 10,000 people enjoyed the biggest Christmas celebration ever to be seen in Wimbledon - the All New Winter Wonderland.

The event on Sunday (December 1) involved a dance performance from Flawless (from Britain's Got Talent), Christmas markets, street entertainment, children's rides and a spectacular firework display.

With the Mayor of Merton officially opening the event at 12pm, stage acts including Merton Music Foundation, Rock Choir, New Wimbledon Theatre and Morden Primary School kept the crowds entertained with festive fun and Christmas songs.

Children's rides including a carousel, rodeo reindeer and a Christmas pudding bouncy castle. There was also stilt-walking fairies, dancing penguins, singing crackers, a snow machine and a 9m-high Father Christmas.

Family photos took place within a giant snow globe and market stalls sold festive presents and foods, Christmas trees and wreaths, mulled wine and cider was popular, as well as the popcorn stand and candyfloss. Flawless dance crew provided a sensational finale which had fans shouting for more and Centre Court Shopping's spectacular firework display lit up the skies, ending the day on a magical note.

Love Wimbledon BID manager Helen Clark Bell said: "This was a fantastic event and we're delighted at how well it was received. Pedestrianising Wimbledon Broadway meant that we could provide a wider variety of entertainment for more people to enjoy. We work on behalf of the Wimbledon businesses and we're delighted that so many took part in Wimbledon Winter Wonderland".
