Wimbledon Auditions For National YMCA Festival

Could you be a top performer?

Young people across Merton will have the chance to step into the limelight by taking part in the upcoming Wimbledon audition for the YMCA As One festival which is taking place near Coventry in June.

Auditions will be held at John Innes Youth Centre in Wimbledon on February 21 from 3pm to 6pm. The top performance at the audition wins a place at the Performance Stage at the festival in June, a prize of £100 and reimbursement of travel to the festival of up to £150.

The second and third place holders at the audition will also be invited to perform at the Performance Stage at the YMCA As One festival.

Organisers Music ROOM at YMCA LSW are hoping to discover a wealth of hidden talent, including dancers, singers, MCs, poets, musicians, beatboxers and comedians. Solo artists and group acts are welcome to take part.

Joshua Hustwick, Music ROOM Co-ordinator at John Innes Youth Centre and organiser of the As One audition, said: "Our weekly music sessions here at Music Room are a good pool to draw talent from since we have young people here who are involved in diverse arts and music projects. However, this is an open audition where everyone aged 11 to 18 are welcome to take part and I look forward to see a variety of creative talent which showcases what the local area has to offer".

The YMCA As One Festival is an annual 24-hour youth festival organised by YMCAs in the Midlands, which aims to showcase a diverse range of acts and genres in live music and stage performances by young people, for young people.

Starting on Friday June 13 and running until late on Saturday June 14, the festival will have a range of activities and sports alongside the Performance Stage events, and participants will be offered food and drinks throughout the 24 hours of the festival.

The festival is open to all YMCAs and any other youth organisation that wish to get involved. Young people under the age of 14 are welcome if they attend with parents/guardians, otherwise young people must be a part of an organised group whose leaders are in attendance and working with the group.
