Wimbledon Bursts With Colour During Arts Festival

Weekend events on the Piazza

Wimbledon's Piazza was bustling with colour for Love Wimbledon's Autumn Arts Festival.

The first weekend of the festival saw Wimbledon College of Art students, local artists Chromohunt, street artists, musicians from Wimbledon Music Festival, Workshop 305 and community collaborations take over The Piazza offering print workshops, mosaic making and music, demonstrations and sketchcrawls.

Love Wimbledon in collaboration with Green Truc Studios challenged five top street artists to create their art on the ‘Scents-u-all Love’ benches which have stood on Wimbledon Piazza.

The activity, as part of the Wimbledon Autumn Arts Festival, gave a new lease of life to the benches that had originally been designed as part of the Chelsea fringe festival.

The artists involved are leaders in the arts scene creating individual pieces and bold artwork including bling Rhinos, shapes that are impossible and abstract images. Stu Nova is pictued above with his painted bench.

Next weekend (September 27/28) the Autumn Arts Festival will celebrate Wimbledon Bookfest, which starts on October 3, with favourite fictional characters, photography demonstrations and live performances from New Wimbledon Theatre.
