Age UK's Winter Warm-Up Event

Practical support to help older people in winter

Age UK Merton wants to ensure older people are prepared for the months ahead and is launching its Winter Warm-up event on Wednesday (November 12).

Jennie Chapman, Chief Executive said: "Winter time can be very difficult for many older people and it is essential that we do everything we can to help.

"Our Winter Warm-up event  is the ideal opportunity for people to find out what help is available to beat the cold and how to access practical support. This is our way to have an impact on the lives of older people in Merton."

This year their programme will provide:

  • Information about health risks of cold weather and top tips to staying healthy and warm.
  • free home assessment visits to check draught insulation, heating systems, smoke alarms and security
  • information and advice about keeping energy costs down. Appointments can be made for those who need help with benefit checks to ensure they have all the support they are entitled to.

As well as all this their Love Later Life Programme offers a wide range of social activities helping everyone to stay healthy and active.

Their launch will take place on Wednesday (November 12) between 10am and 4pm at their Centre in Mitcham with talks, an opportunity to sign up for a free home visit assessment, health information and mini health checks, Stroke Risk Assessment checks, taster sessions from their Holistic Therapist, a Zumba – move to music – taster session and free refreshments. There will also be lunch places for 40 people at £2.00 or free to first time lunchers.
