Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was killed in an accident in Raynes Park.

It happened in Coombe Lane, near the junction with Durham Road, at 5.25pm on Saturday (December 15) when a 70-year-old female pedestrian was involved in a collision with a car.

She was treated at the scene by ambulance crews and taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, where she died from her injuries on Sunday (December 16).

Her next of kin have been informed. The driver stopped at the scene, and no arrests have been made.

Detective Sergeant Jeff Edwards, who is leading the investigation, said: "I am grateful for a number of people who stopped at the scene to assist the casualty that evening.

"This stretch of road was fairly busy with commuters at that time and I would urge anyone who may have seen any of the parties in the moments leading up to the collision, or the collision itself, to contact
police."

The Coroner has been informed and an inquest will be opened and adjourned in due course. A post-mortem examination will also take place.
