Workman Dies On Wimbledon Building Site

Man, aged in his mid-20s, had been working with concrete

A workman has died while working with concrete on a building site in Wimbledon this afternoon (Monday February 13).

The man, aged in his mid-20s, was initially reported to be injured at the scene in Cranbrook Road, off Worple Road, close to the Royal Mail Sorting Office.

London Ambulance and Police were called, but despite attempts to revive him he was declared dead at the scene.

It is understood he was hit by a ball used to clear concrete pumps. A build-up of pressure is thought to have caused it to fly out at high speed.

Police closed the road after they were called at 1.43pm while investigations took place. A spokesman said that the man’s next of kin had been informed, and his death has also been reported to the Health and Safety Executive.
