Yussuff Wraps Up Wrexham Comeback

Wrexham 1 v Wimbledon 2

Substitute Rashid Yussuff scored his first Wimbledon goal to give the Dons a 2-1 win at Wrexham on Saturday (October 9) that saw them close the gap on Crawley at the top of the table to one point.

The former Gillingham man had only been on the pitch for a matter of minutes after replacing Ricky Wellard when he found himself in position to convert Danny Kedwell’s pass from close range.

It capped an impressive comeback for the Dons, who had found themselves a goal down at half-time and under pressure from the home side for much of the game.

It was Andy Mangan who had put the Welsh side ahead, converting from Neil Ashton’s cross, and Gareth Taylor in particular had opportunities to put them further ahead.

But the Dons were level just minutes after half-time, when Christian Jolley fired home from inside the box to level the scores.

And that set the scene for Yussuff’s late winner which, combined with Crawley’s draw at Barrow, saw the Dons close the gap at the top of the table to one point.

The Dons now face Gateshead at Kingsmeadow next Saturday (October 16) before entering the FA Cup fray. Wimbledon will play away at Basingstoke Town, of the Blue Square South, in the Cup on October 23.
