Car Course For Wimbledon's Youngsters

With a new free motoring course for teens

Wimbledon’s teenagers can get their hands dirty with a new free motoring course offering them the chance to work on real car engines as well as learn more about road safety.

The ‘First Gear’ course, which has just been launched at South Wimbledon Youth Centre in Haydons Road, will focus on a variety of skills from car maintenance, theory test practice and road safety within a designated workshop.

Merton council’s youth opportunities fund panel commissioned the project following a road safety conference showing the high numbers of young people involved in road accidents.

London Probation Service and the youth justice service have teamed up to ensure that youngsters who complete 30 hours of the ‘First Gear’ course receive a recognised accreditation.
