Plea For Volunteers For Information Desk

Help new business-backed Wimbledon Town Centre Information Point within Centre Court Shopping Centre

A new information site, aiming to tell visitors about Wimbledon's attractions, will be ready for opening by early June, and a team of volunteers will be needed to help staff the site throughout the week and support the permanent staff who will be paid for by local businesses.

Centre Court Shopping Centre have donated the space in the centre, the desk, branding and the installation of the phone/broadband. Funds have also been raised to pay for IT equipment and staffing, and there is a sponsorship package for businesses to join.

Wimbledon Town Centre Management board has been driving the project as part of the Going for Gold Campaign, aiming to improve prepare the town for the opportunities which will come with the 2012 Olympics.

David Ordman, Chair of Town Centre Management Board, said: "While there has been strong support and enthusiasm from many local businesses to provide financial assistance towards staffing the site, there does need to be additional support from the rest of the business community to help us operate and maintain this excellent service."
