A teenage boy is in a critical condition in hospital after being involved in a collision with a marked police car in the early hours of Sunday morning (16 July) in Wimbledon.

The police say that the sixteen-year-old was one of three youths that were riding on a moped being monitored by the police including the National Police Air Service helicopter at around 2.15am. At the time of the collision they were on South Park Road near the junction of Trinity Road.

The moped had been reported stolen four days earlier and it was believed to have been involved in an earlier attempted robbery.

The other two youths on the moped were also taken to hospital. A sixteen-year-old had suffered a serious injury to his leg and a fifteen-year-old sustained minor injuries.

All three males were arrested at the scene and two large knives were recovered.
