West London Ball Hockey Kids Club for Girls & Boys age 5-14years have this Saturday, April the 28th morning 09:45, a special guest appearance at; Elthorne Sports Centre. She will speak to the children about ball/street hockey and give them some tips on how to improve in ball/street hockey and how far they can go in this sport, which is played, "with trainers not roller skates".  She will also suit up as a goalie and play with children. Chelsea was also the goalie on the winning team at the annual Canada Day's ball/street hockey tournament 2011 at Trafalgar square London.  It will be great to see any of you with children and friends behind Elthone sports centre, on Saturday morning to meet Chelsea.  You can also ask her questions regarding ball/street hockey in relation to the physical and mental development of you child.  Invite as many children/friends as you like. Sports Relief -Run a Mile

To culminate their fundraising for this year’s Sport Relief campaign, several colleagues from Sainsbury’s Wimbledon were involved in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in St James’s park.  Shahin Ahamed, a Public Relation Ambassador from Sainsbury’s Wimbledon who took part said: “Running for a good cause with so many local people truly was a great experience. Sainsbury’s are proud to have sponsored the mile and we’d like to thank all our customers who literally went the extra mile in their fundraising efforts for Sport Relief”.Sainsbury’s Chief Executive Justin King also went the extra mile and took part in a special Sport Relief Mile Challenge.  Justin ran 32 miles between 14th to 17th March, where one colleague from every Sainsbury’s store ran with Justin, which equalled over 1000 colleagues. Rico Nuarin and Joe Fleming from Sainsbury’s Wimbledon were the colleagues who ran with Justin at his Richmond park leg of his challenge on 17th March.

• Colleagues at Sainsbury’s Wimbledon announce that they  raised £1,252 from their fundraising activities for Sport Relief• The store raised the funds by holding cake sell, wear sports shirt day, waxing a colleague, cycling, tombola and run a mile.• On Sport Relief night of TV on Friday 23rd March, Sainsbury’s announced that they had raised over £4 million for this year’s  campaign• The retailer has now raised over £60 million for Comic Relief since their sponsorship began in 1999 Colleagues at Sainsbury’s Wimbledon are celebrating after going the extra mile in their fundraising efforts for this year’s Sport Relief campaign. Following a number of sport-themed fundraising activities organised by colleagues at the store, situated in worple road, they raised in total £1,252. Sainsbury’s has raised over £4 million for this year’s campaign.Sport Relief 2012 merchandise went on sale in Sainsbury’s on 15th February, with the Sport Relief weekend taking place between Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th March. Many customers supported Sainsbury’s Wimbledon fundraising activities, which began with cake sell on 23rd of March. Colleagues also took part in wear sports shirt day, waxing a colleague, cycling, tombola, run a mile which took place on Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th March.

Genes Reunited Scam.

Has anyone else been scammed by Genes Reunited? I accepted a free 14 day trial in February 2012. The terms were that if I was  happy with the free trial, £49.95 would be taken from my bank account after the 14 days for a 6 month subscription. The day after the trial started I cancelled the trial and the subscription. Over the next two weeks I sent another 3 or 4 emails but received no replys from any of them. I was then notified by Genes Reunited that they had taken £49.95 from my account. Funny thing is they are now answering my emails now that they have taken the money. They claim that they haven't received any of the 4 or 5 emails asking them to cancel. When I then asked if they wanted me to forward to them the emails requesting cancelation they just emailed back saying that they weren't giving a refund. Barclay's bank has asked me to send them copies of the emails which I sent to Genes Reunited and they will recover my money. Another warning! If you join Genes Reunited for 6 months you will pay £49.95 and if you don't wish to take out another 6 month subscription they will still take another £49.95 for another 6 months. There are other people that have lost their money in this way, but Genes Reunited blame the individuals for NOT notifying them that they wish to cancel. Be warned!  Regards. Recently Merton's GLA representative Richard Tracey claimed that under Boris Johnson policing has increased. Not so in Merton. You (SW19.com) report that we are short by 6 Police Officers. For Safe Neighbourhood Teams, the scene is even more worrying : their strength id DOWN by 66% in Longthornton ward, 60% in Cannon Hill, and 50% in Graveney! We expect our elected reps to be more factual and less mere propagandists.

Wimbledon shoppers help feed the hungry

Local Wimbledon shoppers donated a generous 690 kilos of food – two thirds of a ton - to Wimbledon foodbank on Saturday to help feed local people facing crisis.  A small army of volunteers including Zipcar employees gave their time to make the Sainsbury’s supermarket collection in Wimbledon a fantastic success.With a visit from the Mayor of Merton, Councillor Gilli Lewis- Lavender the event was given an extra boost and she was even on the tannoy asking people to donate!The foodbank aims to help people through short term crisis by providing emergency food parcels. Wimbledon foodbank centre also provides support and signposting to help combat the long term problem.The supermarket collection took place outside Wimbledon Sainsbury’s on Saturday 4th February.

Merton Council did not obtain an independent valuation for the Council owned Freehold of the Morden Tavern when it negotiated a value with Reef Estates Ltd. The council are in danger of contravening the 1972 Local Government Act in its duty of obtaining the best value possible for the property. Documents seen by the Campaign for Morden Tavern appear to indicate that the ‘in house’ valuation carried out by the same council officer who led negotiations for Merton Council with Reef Estates in meetings with no minutes recorded to buy the Freehold failed to take into consideration the additional value of the site if planning permission was granted. Boundary commission to obliterate much of Wimbledon

I am very sad to see the proposal to move much of Wimbledon (Abbey and Trinity wards) into the parliamentary constituency of Mitcham. Though Wimbledon will still notionally have an MP, in fact all of South Wimbledon and the town centre as far as the railway station will be in Mitcham, including the Police Station, the Fire Station, Theatre and Centre Court shopping centre.This proposal does not reflect the reality of our famous town and community and treats us like an indistinct piece of a sub-urban sprawl.

The documentary will be presented by Fred Dinenage and looks at the early years of Jones and links him to the unsolved murders of 8 prostitutes in the Hammersmith district of London between 1959 and 1965. As chair of Merton's Planning Applications Committee, I reject CAMRA's claim that loss of this pub is due to Merton's planning decisions.  Changing a pub to a shop no longer requires planning permission, and the owners could have done this before seeking to convert the upper part to flats.  In any case, whether a pub does or does not have a resident manager is outside our remit as a planning authority.

Schools planning

It's not really good enough for Cllr Peter Walker to simply argue semantics about the sites consultation (it's not really the point, but Leisure and Art, culture and tourism - are presumably also "community uses" and yet they're mentioned as distinct things). The point being made is the apparent lack of strategy when it comes to schools - and not just primary schools, the shortage of places will shortly reach secondary schools.What we really need to see is a detailed plan of what the Council is going to do: but there is so little in the way of foresight, that they don't even mention schools at all in their call for sites.

Ginger and White Cat still missing!

Whilst everyone is out and about enjoying the 'summer' weather and school holidays please keep a look out for a ginger and white cat. He went missing last November and although I put posters up everywhere and have had a fantastic response from all my lovely neighbours we still haven't found out what happened to him.He may not look lost he is very affectionate but quite independent. Does anyone have any information about Michael Turner. He lived with 1964 Chiswick murder victim Mary Fleming and had 2 children with her. He lived with Mary at Pembridge Gardens, Kensington in 1959. In April 1962 while living at Powis Gardens,Notting Hill they had a daughter Veronica Turner. In 1963 they had a son named David Turner. Mary and Michael parted and Mary and the 2 children moved to 25 Geraldine Road, Chiswick. They then moved to 44 Lancaster Gate, Notting Hill but Mary was found murdered at Berrymede Road,Acton Green,Chiswick on 14th July 1964.Mary's daughter Veronica would love to make contact with her father Michael Turner. 1st of May is just around the corner. If you google Fred Dinenage Murder Casebook you will see plenty of links for the series of eight 1 hour documentaries, including a 30 second video preview. Towards the end of the clip you will see 2 photos of former Fulham, Putney and Hammersmith child killer and suspected Hammersmith nudes' killer Harold Jones. It now looks certain that Jones also stabbed to death former Putney resident Ignac (George) Ulycz on Sunday August 15th 1965. After Mr Ulycz' stabbing the killer ran nearly half a mile from the crime scene at Upper Richmond Road Putney and just seemed to vanish into Colinette Road. He didn't actually vanish, he retreated into 20 Colinette Road the home of psycho Harold Jones. Shortly after the murder Jones moved 4 miles away to Hammersmith, changing his assumed name of Harry Stevens to Harry Jones.The episode of Fred Dinenage Murder Casebook dealing with Harold Jones will be aired on the C+I Channel 553 at 9.00pm on Sunday 29th May 2011. WI-Fi Network in London should not be built

Protagonists including the Mayor propose Wi-Fi emanating from every lamp post in London. Sounds sexy but like every sexual revolution it passes most of us by whilst others end up with a nasty disease! The benefits to the overall community are not proven.  3 and 4 G phones will do everything Wi-Fi will do without the financial investment (capital and on-going) or the physical upheaval.  Fast forward to the day of Wi-Fi everywhere, how will people use it? Who will sit on kerbsides in the suburbs checking their e-mails when this ability is already available on the mobile phone network through multi media smart phones? Governments should not invest in sectors when the market is satisfied.In addition, the 3% of the population that suffers from electro-magnetic sensitivity would have nowhere to hide with complete Wi-Fi coverage in London.  ‘Always on’ Wi-Fi is more painful to these ignored sufferers. Home Wi-Fi and phone masts are bad enough but these can be avoided to some extent. 24-hour Wi-Fi electro-magnetic smog will be a constant headache.A Wi-Fi network covering the whole of London should not be built.   David Dean

Changing operating system

I would welcome advice from any computer experts in the area. A few years ago, I bought a new computer which had Windows Vista installed as its operating system. I realized too late that it was a complete disaster, and I've been fighting with it ever since. As a non-techie person, I was very happy with my previous system, which was Windows Xp. Is there any way that I can have Vista uninstalled and Xp installed? I know that Windows7 is the latest system, but I want to return to what I'm comfortable with. Can this be done, and does anyone know who can do it?

Cycling (Highway) Blues

It is a great pity that our Borough's processes led to the the Cycle Super Highway being cut cut back from its planned and publicised end at South Wimbledon Tube station. Because of this, Merton can only benefit from an amputated Cycle Super Highway, cut short at Colliers' Wood, and abandoning the circulation problems below the knee. This blunt surgery was done without even consulting anyone who rides a bicycle daily on Merton roads to live, to work, to learn . Why is it not essential that there is meaningful consultation with people who know what they are doing? It would save Merton and London local taxpayers a mint.Merton and GLA members and officers need to change their perceived mindset if they want to do anything more positive to grow cycling to match lovely soft warm words with a touch of reality. That would cut back on personal motoring costs, make living in Merton more enjoyable and reduce the bill for street maintenance.

Hammersmith nudes' murders

In my book Who Was Jack the Stripper? there are approximately 140 photographs, many of which have been provided by relatives of people involved in the case of the unsolved murders of 8 Women in the Hammersmith, Chiswick, Brentford, Acton and Kensington areas of London between 1959 and 1965. A number have been provided by 4 adult children of 4 of the victims. I have received sponsorship from my local authority (Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council and British Steel Enterprise Limited)and from various business and private sponsors to purchase licences to reproduce some stunning images to use in my book. I am still trying to secure sponsorship to reproduce various images. There are 5 at £88.15 each and 5 full front pages of the Daily Mirror at £182.13 each. Hammersmith nudes' murders 1959-1965

Bit of a long shot but: On Friday 8th November 1963 at Richmond and Barnes Council's refuse tip near the River Thames at Mortlake the body of 22 year old Welsh girl Gwynneth Rees was found dead beneath 2 feet of compacted ash. A man named Frank Bennett aged 54 told the police that the road leading to the refuse tip was a favourite spot for courting couples. Can anyone tell me if they knew Frank Bennett. Lovebird Found......

Shouldn't there be a tennis related thread to mark the start of the championships?

I used to go after school and get the five bob tickets re-sold at 1700 in aid of some charity. We got access to the most amazing matches for the last couple of hours of play.I can remember doihg my chemistry revision in the queue for tickets - which probably explains the wholly rubbish exam result and being made to drop all science except biology at the age of 14.All the fault of the tennis!
