Bath Comeback Pulls Plug On Dons

Bath City 2 v Wimbledon 2

Wimbledon let slip a two-goal lead as they drew 2-2 at Bath City on Tuesday (25 January) and slipped off the top of the table.

While the Dons were being held at Twerton Park, fellow title challengers Crawley and Luton were both winning, but the Dons remain in second place.

After an even opening spell, during which both side spurned chances to open the scoring, the Dons took the lead just after the half-hour mark. Luke Moore’s run from the halfway line was ended in unfair fashion inside the box by Luke Ruddick; Danny Kedwell despatched the subsequent penalty.

Seb Brown produced two saves from Kaid Mohamed before the Dons doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time. Luke Moore was again involved, his cross being lifted over goalkeeper Carl Pentney by Brentford loanee Kirk Hudson for his first goal in Dons colours.

The Dons came out firing on all cylinders at the start of the second half but were stunned when after seven minutes Marc Canham’s 20-yard free-kick curled into the top corner of the net.

That goal encouraged the home side, and Brown was again in inspired form to deny Mohamed again and then Adam Connolly. Lee Phillips almost converted Ben Watson cross, before Sido Jombati’s hit the woodwork with a header.

Just as it seems as if the Dons might hold out, with five minutes left Phillips broke into the box and set up Scott Murray, whose effort was blocked by the Dons but rebounded off Phillips and into the back of the net.

There was still time for Kedwell to see his shot blocked by Pentney, but ultimately the Dons were left ruing letting their lead slip away.

This Friday (28 January) the Dons travel to Gateshead for a game that is being shown live on Premier Sports TV. They then travel to York City on Tuesday 1 February.
